It has been over a week since I have driven. . . This slightly bothers me, but I have no need for a car unless I go grocery shopping and I really can't afford the gas to go on fun drives and I do believe the fun roads around me are now covered in salt and get icey now. I has a sad. But next Tuesday I am going to take the fun way to get to the Bay Area instead of the boring freeway way.

Have a picture of a Laser Blue NB, the color I wish my car was.

Dad had an NB in black cherry, love some of the rarer colors on the miata.

Mine is just a well worn, worse for wear Highlight Silver 99. Her paint has seen better days and I know she has been resprayed and the job wasn't great but I didn't realize that when I got her. But I don't forsee a Laser Blue 02 landing in my lap at any time since there were so few of them made.

I didn't drive my car yesterday, and this morning I was so excited to get into my car and go to work.

And leaving work too I was just so happy to be in my car, not the Slow slushbox Taurus.

I has a sad also. A very large sad. I wasn't able to bring my car to college with me, which happens to be literally a one minute drive from mountain roads. I take any opportunity I have to drive a car.

Luckily I'll be going back home next week for Thanksgiving and be able to take nice, long drives once again with my first car that I plan on keeping forever pictured below after a nice wash with relatively fresh paint.

What is stopping you from bringing your car to college? I genuinely am curious because next year (high school senior), I'll be embarking on this 4 year adventure (hopefully) called college and 100 percent plan on keeping my car regardless of where I go.

Some colleges don't let students of any year bring cars, some let only a certain year and older bring cars and some (the good guys) let everyone bring cars. If you go to a big school, your parking pass is going to cost you your right ear and both pinky toes. I go to a small school with free parking for everyone. It's like an automotive utopia full of rich kids with nice cars to ogle at.

My advice as a college sophomore, go to a smaller school. I go to one and have heard enough about big schools to know I made the right choice. Knowing your professors is a big advantage, and getting to really know such smart, interesting people is awesome.

Depending on where you go you don't really need a car. It also depends on where you end up living if you have space for a car. Those are some reasons why people don't bring cars to school.

I get to go on a two hour or so journey next tuesday to my cousins house then for another 6 hour journey to my parents. At least I am going to find the fun way to my cousins house. . .

I think it is the sexiest blue put on the Miata. Sadly they made fewer than 200 of these.

It is definitely possible to bring your car wherever you end up going to college and I encourage you to do so. I'm going to school in Colorado right now and there are students that have brought their cars from as far away as Alaska. However the reason why I didn't bring my car was for various reasons.

My car is a 1991 Honda Prelude and it just didn't seem practical for me to have a car with my for my first year up here and the reasons include:

Maintenance - Living in the dorms on campus means that I would have to work on my car in a parking lot. Yes I could make friends and I was bound to find someone that would be okay with me working on my car in their driveway, but I didn't want to count on that. Also, I don't have a set of tools I could use (which I'm slowly building) that I feel would be quite enough to be able to work on my car. Granted, that a large part of the drivetrain is new from repairs, there's still a lot that can go wrong that I might or might not be able to fix.

Driving Experience - Coming from Houston, where it never snows, and all the roads are flat and straight with the hardest part of driving being avoiding bad and reckless drivers, Colorado is a whole different place and my dad isn't quite comfortable with letting me drive up here in the snowy conditions that will be coming soon. I know I won't ever learn the proper way to drive in the snow unless I try it, but if things do happen to go wrong and I were to lose control, I wouldn't want for it to happen in my Prelude. I am very confident in my driving, but honestly, one year and 12,000 miles under my belt isn't actually much at all.

Getting My Car to Colorado - I feel that my car is very dependable, but I can only confidently say that about the engine block and transmission itself. Also I would say it's reliable when it comes to all of the hoses and many other components that have been replaced, but there's still a lot of surprises that it can throw at me that I might not be prepared for. Most recently, the radiator just spontaneously sprung a leak and I'm afraid other critical components are going to fail along the 1,300 mile journey I would have made from Houston to Colorado. We could ship it to Colorado, but the price of that was not quite worth it if I considered the reasons why I shouldn't bring my car to Colorado.

Another reason why I didn't want to bring my car is because I would prefer to keep my car in a garage and not outdoors in a parking lot all year. Fortunately I plan on living in a house next year instead of a dorm which will allow me to have a suitable place for me to maintain my car and also store it. Also I look forward to having a somewhat complete tool set by then, which by "somewhat complete", I mean enough to keep my car running.

It is definitely possible to bring your car with you regardless of where you go to college, but it just didn't quite make sense for me to do so based off of what my dad and I figured along with our financial situation.

I hope your future 4 year adventure will turn out great though.

Good luck!

I have a confession: I haven't driven any car in 3 months. I moved to a city, and dropped my insurance. I'm thinking about getting a pay as you go zipcar. Driving is incredibly expensive relative to mass transit. All roads within many miles of here are full of traffic and pedestrians and bikers. I miss the private roads where the curves flowed with the hills.

I plan on breaking that rule if there is such a rule wherever I go. I'll keep it in a parking complex like I do now (I live I'm NYC and park slightly outside of the city).

Aww that's even worst. I'm fortunate that my dad is still keeping mine while I'm in college.

I hope you get to shred those mountain roads sometime soon!
